Children’s popular movie characters promoting junk food
A study by The Children’s Food Campaign has found characters from popular children’s movies frozen, Star Wars and Minions more likely to be linked to junk food than healthy food. The study looked at what food and drinks promotions featured characters and branding from popular kids and family movies in the UK. It found Star Wars branded ice creams, biscuits, cakes, yoghurts and sugary drinks. The Minions movie had tie-ins to confectionery and sugary drinks and cereal brands.
The Children’s Food Campaign has called for government policy to restrict the use of licensed and brand characters in association with junk food.
